This Bible Study will be about a word that only appears twice in The Bible. This word is grasp. There are a variety of spellings in several places in The Bible, such as grasped, grasping, and grasps, but this Bible Study will focus on only the two verses that have the word grasp in them. There will also be two additional verses for part of this Bible Study as well. I am sure you are wondering what the question that is part of the title means and what I am talking about with that question.
This question can have thousands or billions of answers. You can grasp tools, weapons, clothing, food, silverware, soap, your children’s hands, your spouse, and so on with many more things as well. This could also be viewed from an intellectual perspective as well, such as what do you comprehend about this subject or that curriculum. However, for the purposes of this Bible Study this is being asked in regards to the spiritual side of things in life. If this has you curious, then please read on.
The Scriptures and The Teaching
Zechariah 8:23 NKJV
(23) “Thus says The Lord of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” ‘ “
Here we see a prophecy that is partially fulfilled, is being fulfilled, and will be fulfilled completely during The Millennium Kingdom when Jesus Christ will rule from The New Jerusalem during The 1,000-Year Reign that takes place right at the end of The Tribulation and right before The Battle of Armageddon, but those are for deeper studies than here. People will gather to those who are True Christians wanting to go to church with them because these people will have heard about God being with us.
You will notice that when you are a True Christian that people will start to flock towards you and the reason is because they have heard of God being with you. Every one knows there is a God and that He does indeed exist. Even devout Atheists know this, but are just afraid to admit it to others. Every one has a cross-shaped hole in their hearts from the time of conception. This is only filled with Jesus Christ, Who is God, living in their hearts along with The Holy Spirit.
The interesting thing to note is that people will grab onto the sleeves of a Jewish man here. The Hebrew word for man here denotes all of mankind and this includes women as well as men. You are either a Jew, which is an actual Jew of Jewish heritage with at least one parent being a Jew, or you are a Gentile, which is a non-Jew.
Then why does The Bible say that people will flock to a True Christian here by calling that True Christian a Jew? Does that mean that only Jews can be True Christians in life? Not at all. The Bible teaches that all those who are Jews are Jews inwardly because they truly live for God. That is what True Christians do as well. Read the evidence about this that the Apostle Paul wrote about here:
Romans 2:28-29 NKJV
(28) For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; (29) but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in The Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
It is clear that circumcision is not just for a physical act in The New Testament because we are under The New Covenant, which The New Testament teaches, and we are no longer under The Old Covenant, which The Old Testament teaches. Therefore, all True Christians are Jews inwardly because they truly worship and live for God in their lives, but they are not all Jews due to physical heritage. If you grasp this teaching, then The Bible teaches that it is good that you do as can be seen here below:
Ecclesiastes 7:18 NKJV
(18) It is good that you grasp this, and also not remove your hand from the other; for he who fears God will escape them all.
As you can see it is good for you to grasp the teaching in this Bible Study. You also notice that we are taught not to remove our hand from the other here for he who fears God will escape them all. What is the other and who are them all here? The other is in reference to the rest of what The Bible teaches as well. This shows clearly that you can’t pick and choose only the parts of The Bible that you like to obey, but you must choose it all or none of it in life as well.
The them is in reference to those who try to make false claims saying that Gentiles can’t be True Christians and those who falsely claim that The Bible is fake. That is both sides of the spectrum with God being in the center for a perfectly balanced life. The farther away from God you get the closer you get to Satan. I will ask my question again for you. What do you grasp?
That is all for this Bible Study. Please leave any comments or questions you may have and I will answer them as soon as I am able. I hope this has enlightened you to the truth of The Bible and helps you to live for God with a better understanding of The Bible as well as to be able to apply these teachings to your life. Please share this with everyone you know and God bless you all.
